Mémoires de guerre

Who we are?

In search of lost Norman witnesses

Appeal for witnesses of the Second World War: the University of Caen-Normandy website (www.memoires-de-guerre.fr) would like to give a face to 18 Norman witnesses whose fascinating testimonies are now online. In the case of 11 of them, we would at least like to find their Christian names! We also want to pay homage to their interviewers who have so far remained anonymous.

So we ask witnesses and/or their descendants to get in touch and write to us here:

About the Website

Since December 2015, this website has become totally extensible: from now on, we may be uploading new files at any time, so we apologise for any inconvenience caused by any technical problems we may face. We are indeed planning to publish new testimonies translated into languages other than the five (French, Russian, Italian, English and German) already available. We are also in the process of publishing other translations we have been keeping in our digital archives since May 2012.

Please note that the introduction to the bilingual brochure Récits de Normands et de Toscans / Racconti di normanni e di toscani, edited by V. Agostini-Ouafi in May 2012, presents the project which led to the creation of this website. This brochure can be downloaded from this page or from the homepage.
